NEMS had four members compete in the Cranberry Trifest Olympic distance race on Sunday, August 29th. This race is the Northeast regional club championships and attracts some very fast competition. Despite the competition, both Colin Cook and Nate Thomas, finished 2nd in their age groups. Colin finished 16th overall and Nate finished 41st. Robert Charest and Jeff Smith both also had very respectable finishes in the tough field. Rob had very respectable splits in all 3 events. As for Jeff, this was his first time attempting the Olympic distance and he did terrific! So ccngrats to Jeff for taking his training to the next level and conquering the Olympic distance.
Despite only having 4 racers competing at the event, NEMS only finished a few points out of 2nd place in the division 5 club standings. Next year we will be back with more competitors and we WILL win division 5. We’d also like to thank Ross Moir and both of his adorable kids for showing up to route on the team as well as take some great pictures. Nice work everyone!
NEMS was represented well once again today at the Witch City Sprint Triathlon in Salem, MA. NEMS had two members racing and they both did quite well. Quinlan finished 6th in his age group and 38th overall while dramatically improving his swim time from his first race. Smith did great as well, finishing 4th in the Clydesdale division. NEMS is proud of both of them for a job well done. Here is a picture of Jeff and Chad on race day.

Chad Quinlan had a great race during the Marlborough Sprint Triathlon on August 1, 2010. Despite a large field, Quinlan finished 4th his age group during this race. This is a tremendous accomplishment for any triathlete, but considering it is only Chad’s second race ever, it makes the achievement even more extraordinary. Way to go Chad! Keep up all the hard work.
NEMS had an excellent showing at the Appleman Sprint Tri in Littleton, MA on July 18th. 2 of the 4 members that competed in the race finished on the podium for their age group. Philip Lavely had a great race getting 2nd in his age group and 11th overall. Colin Cook also had a good race and finished 3rd is age group and 8th overall. NEMS is also very proud of member Chad Quinlan who finished a very respectable 8th in his age group in his first triathlon. Way to go Chad! Congrats on becoming an official triathlete. Gary Cook also competed and did very well considering he has just started his comeback from a groin injury. Way to go everyone! Here are a few pics from the event.
Colin Cook and NEMS had a big weekend at the Black Fly Tri in Waterville Valley, NH last weekend. While competing in the Lord of the Flies (Bike TT Friday night, International distance tri on Saturday, and a Sprint Tri on Sunday), Cook took first in his age group in both the International and Sprint tri races. He also was the 7th overall male for the weekend. Here are a few shots of Colin on the podium:
Besides some rain during Saturday’s race, this was an incredible event. NEMS members Rob Charest, Myra Brennan, as well as a few NEMS prospects competed in the event and did extremely well. NEMS would like to thank Keith and EndorFun for putting on such a well organized and fun event. We are looking forward to coming back next year with even more members of the team racing.
The uniform’s have been here for a few months now, but we forgot to post some pics. They came out awesome! Here are some pics of a few members of NEMS rocking the team uniforms. Thank you so much to our sponsors, especially Suntheanine for their contributions on these.
Hi Everyone,
The Pactimo samples are in. We will be meeting at Cat’s house in Brookline on Friday, March 5, at 5pm for everyone to try on some samples. Unfortunately the samples are all pretty small so some of us bigger guys may not get to take advantage of the samples. Also, bring your bike and your trainer because we’re going to an hour group ride on the trainers for those who are interested. It will be great to see everyone and I’m really looking forward to getting the uniforms ordered.

NEMS is in the process of getting the uniform design finished up and it is time for everyone to let us know your sizing. We have decided to go with the two piece uniforms. Right now Pactimo is the front runner. Here is a link to their sizing chart.
Please email your sizing info to Colin@NorthEastMultiSport.com. If you have any questions about any of it, please let us know.
Saturday night NEMS attended the 2010 Harpoon Brewery Indoor Time Trail at Harpoon Brewery in Boston, MA. This is a video of the team heat including Boston Triathlon team and team Psycho. The event was quite interesting and there was a lot of great riders there including Jarrod Shoemaker and a couple other professionals. However, this was quite a disappointing day for me. I was supposed to be in the 9pm heat, but was not able to race because they were running about 2 hours behind schedule. I just wasn’t interested in starting my trial at 11:00pm when I had to be up to do things Sunday morning.

On Sunday, a few NEMS members attended a lecture by Dr. Philip Skiba, a world class triathlon coach at Landry’s bikes in Boston. Dr. Skiba was a great speaker and was very informative. Seeing how Dr. Skiba’s day job is working in labs doing scientific research, all of his theories and principles are based purely off scientific data. During his lecture, he discussed a lot of training theories and the proven results his clients have had from following them. His clients include Ironman World Champions and Olympian Joanna Zeiger, Ultraman World Champion Jonas Colting, and cycling powerhouse Bjorn Andersson. Read the rest of this entry »
